“Deep Throat” is starred by one of the most controversial porn stars Linda Susan Boreman more popularly known as Linda Lovelace. In this film, Lovelace paraded unconventional niches: she showcased close up scenes of a completely shaven honey suckle and she got rammed on her wolf hole. Considering of course that it was the 70’s when- most rodox stars have vajungles and vaginal sex is the only “in” thing- Lovelace’s avant-garde gonzo scenes made her pre-eminent in the porn industry.

In spite of “Deep Throat” being banned from over half of the US, FBI sources say that revenue grossed to over a hundred million dollars. Some even claimed that the digits might have reached 600 million dollars because it ran in theaters for over a year! A Film critic stated that this might not be real since, during those times mobsters are in control of movie theaters; that the they must have “inflated box office receipts as a way of laundering income from drugs and prostitution…”

In spite of the low production budget “Deep Throat” made a mark in the porn industry for its “artistic” and humorous montage in depicting the image of orgasm: ringing bells, fireworks and launching rockets. Dig that!

“Deep Throat” is the story of Linda Lovelace (yes, she was portraying herself) who was flummoxed by the absence of orgasm in her sexual exploits. She confided this problem with her friend Helen (played by Dolly Sharp) who, convinced her into coming to an orgy party with her. Unfortunately, this didn’t help at all so, she went to see a perverted doctor who had this habit of banging her blond nurse. The doctor then revealed to her that Lovelace’s clitoris is actually in the back of her throat! (Imagine that..) Lovelace became the doctor’s therapist so that she can have access to a “Deep Throat” spree anytime. In the process, she can also find the person who can finally satisfy and marry her.

During the time of “Deep Throat’s” release, there were conservative issues thrown against the movie. Screenings were made for the juries to determine whether they would find it obscene or not. In effect, the decisions varied in different areas which, got the film banned in a number of states throughout the US. But because of the monumental success of “Deep Throat”, several sequels were made. The first one was “Deep Throat II” where Linda Lovelace was kidnapped by Russians to extract from her information about her “secrets”. Various producers made their version of “Deep Throat II” probably with the intentions of riding in with the popularity of the title. Deep Throat 3 was starred by the popular Peter North while the last three sequels (Deep Throat 4, 5 and 6) was directed by Guinness World Record holder for the “actor with the most porn movies” Ron Jeremy.
